Dippers update
With the breeding season in full swing already, it’s time to give you an update on the Dippers. After building the nest from moss and grass and little twigs, the final lining apparently was made of last autumn’s beech leaves. It was very nice to watch how the pair collected and cleaned the leaves in the rapid current before taking them into the nest.
Meantime, the eggs were laid and the chicks must have already hatched. This past weekend, I could already see both adults carry food into the nest - so far just small invertebrates and insect larvae.
Every few minutes, the adults land on a stone in the stream and fly from there to the nest. Together with excellent light, these are perfect conditions for some great shots of landing manoeuvres.
