Dippers are back

In autumn and over the turn of the year, they are hardly visible. But now they are back again.

It is always a magnificent spectacle to watch the dippers perform their courtship displays. They collect moss, grass and thin twigs and carry them to their nesting cave, preparing for the first brood of the season. And in between, they dive to catch insect larvae and other prey.

I will visit them frequently over the next few weeks and hopefully see the brood soon after they leave the nest.
