Winter Habitat
It’s been a cold and foggy day. For 2024’s final longer walk (10 miles) we went to the river Hamme flat, a half hour’s drive north of Bremen and just west of artist village Worpswede. The Hamme flat is literally that: flat as a pan. But no view still, as it was very foggy.
We only saw a few birds, but heard many more. Hundreds of geese - Greater White-fronted, Greylags, Barnacle and Canada - were resting and feeding in the meadows.
Along the banks of the river Hamme, we spotted kingfishers and a pair of goosanders, which were quite shy and not very willing to be photographed. The same applied to a large flock of goldfinches, which rushed ahead of us from bush to bush and tree to tree.
Despite near-freezing temperatures it was a lovely walk and a good opportunity to take some mostly high-key landscape shots with very calm waters and the muted colours of winter flora.
